Since this year’s Penguin update on Google, some SEO professionals and marketers have had to adjust their game plan when it comes to promoting a client’s website. Some digital agency’s bad linking policies and link SPAM were the specific items targeted, causing many a link farm or directory site to lose their ‘link juice’ and thus reduce their worth as a linking partner.

There was a Search London event last Tuesday in London focusing on Schema and Google +. Lisa Myers, the CEO and founder of Verve Search and Paul Chaloner, Head of Social Media at Fresh Egg were speakers at the event. Lisa has been in the press recently. She is also the co-founder of State of Search blog which won best European blog earlier this month. Using Schema Schema is a collection of markup vocabulary tags in HTML, which allow you to microdata for search engines to take more detailed notice of certain bits of information on your page. This microdata allows you to put item types such as “localbusiness”, “recipe”, “event” and “place” to name a few.

By now, you’ve heard the phrase “There’s an app for that”. What began as a marketing catch cry for Apple is now synonymous with applications for iPhone and Android platforms, as well as the lesser known Nokia OVI. It has even become so popular that it has flooded pop culture as a parody of itself. But how do we make use of ‘apps’? Most of us need to be productive at home and around the office, and using a phone just isn’t as useful as first thought. Phone apps are fantastic on the run for simple needs, and nowadays many people use tablet computers which has increased the popularity of developing apps as the screen is a much bigger size.

The catch-cry of content marketers for years was that ‘content is king’ – the premise that once you achieve rankings, your awesome content will turn a visit into sales and conversions.
